Search Engine Optimisation is a science and an art. But it's not all bubbling cauldrons and incantations. A little homemade magic potion will make your site climb search engine rankings too.

#1 - Bold is Beautiful.

Making some of your site's keywords bold gets the attention of search engines. You can make words appear in bold by putting tags around keywords in your site's backend. Enter

before a keyword and

after it, and voila! Bold type. Don't overdo it though. Make each keyword bold only once or twice.

#2 - Go Deep or Go Home!

"Deep links" are hyperlinks that connect to a page or image on another website instead of your own. They are one of the most important factors a search engine uses to rank your site. First prize goes to the "reciprocal link" – this happens when your site links to a site that links back to you as well. Next best is the "inbound link" – a one-way link from your site to another. To a search engine, the number of inbound links indicates the popularity and importance of your site's content.

#3 - Play Nicely, Share!

Social Bookmarking is quite simply sharing stuff you love with your friends. It enables users to create references that lead their friends to your content. A simple Facebook widget (a free application you can plug into your site) has "Share" and "Like"; Twitter has "Tweet" and "Retweet". You could also allow users to rate, comment and E-Mail your content to their friends.
